LO’JO
310 LUNES(310 moons)

A BOX-SET FOR 310 LUNES: 70 PHOTOGRAPHS OF LO’JO BY BOGDAN KONOPKA, TO RECOUNT THEIR ADVENTURE FROM ANGERS TO TIMBUKTU IN BLACK AND WHITE,

A FANTASY WIND ORCHESTRA THAT WORDLESSLY REINVENTS
“BRÛLE LA MÈCHE”, “L’UNE DES SIENS”, “VENERATE CHILD” AND OTHER STATELESS MUSICAL FANTASIES BY LO’JO,

A RETURN – WITH THIS FIRST EVER REISSUE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COURABOU (1989) –
TO THE VERY FIRST SONIC TURBULENCE OF THOSE WHO SINCE HAVE SEEN 310 MOONS

“LO’JO HAD LONG DREAMT OF AN INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM,
of silent pictures in a strange exhibition, of scenes coloured by impressions, of
rustic shamanisms whose human bellows would be heard
emerging from reeds and embouchures, OF LETTING BRASS AND WOOD SPEAK OUT:
CLARINETS, SAXOPHONES, TUBA, TRUMPET, FLUTE, BASSOON TROMBONE…
a skilled and daring ensemble to re-enact the memory
of Lo’Jo’s historical pieces.

It’s the entire culture of a century that one can taste in these peculiar evocations:
JAZZ, THE MUSIC OF THE AMERICAN REPETETIVES, MEMORIES OF INDIA,
THE HARMONIC SCENTS OF OLD EUROPE, A HINT OF THE BALKANS;
a dawn fanfare in a marquee that’s still asleep.

310 IS THE NUMBER OF MOONS THAT SEPARATE LO’JO FROM THEIR BEGINING.
THE INTERNATIONAL COURABOU, RECORDED IN 1989 – and released only in a small and cultish way back then – was the window of those times, the carrier of those initial dreams,
the premise for an epic journey into geographies of sound,
in fireships of language, to guess at the possibles of a world.
Now – almost 25 years later – and for the very first time, we present THE REISSUE OF THOSE FIRST STEPS,
LIKE A SECRET EXHALED OVER KONOPKA’S PHOTOGRAPHS.
We were four children following our family trades, roaming around Europe for the first time
in that year of 1988, when Poland was still a part of the Soviet empire.
Our seniors in the Compagnie Jo Bithume, with their trucks and caravans
Lead us bang into the middle of gypsy fantasies and miseries, of militias,
of Slavic enchantments, of the theatre of a new real,
of the Jelenia-Gora festival, where street art from all over Europe
nourished their wanderings.

On the main square of Krakow, with photographer Bogdan Konopka,
THE STORY BEGAN ITS 25 YEAR JOURNEY OF PICTURES PRESERVED IN THE AMBER OF THE TIMES.
FOR AN ADVENTURE TO THE EXTREMITIES OF BLACKS AND GREYS,
Where white hovers like a majestic memory of the day – colors of the adventure
in Timbuktu, Paris, our hometown, and anywhere, nowhere, through the unbiased lens.
Details of the ordinary frozen in silver, miniatures of the extraordinary,
the time that passes without saying a word!”
