When you understand itʻs all out of your hands, youʼll feel so light… If youʼre getting old and you got nothing to show, just let it go…
Oh, I’m making a fuss about this track if I want to! It’s gorgeous and heart-melting overriding truth to be told as the ages go by. Melbourne outfit Redspencer have marked their return from a 2015 debut EP with a gripping new single that’s glue to my virtual writing paper. ‘Fuss’ builds on the same brand of quasi-nihilistic guitar pop, swirling with dreamlike bits of neon-indie atmospheres. Recorded to tape (we love tape!) out of a makeshift studio in Melbourne’s inner suburbs, it’s full of analogue warmth and character, bolstered by the involvement of mastering engineer Josh Bonati (Mac DeMarco, DIIV, Wild Nothing). Its jangly guitars and purring synth evoke a heady blend of Yo La Tengo and Ariel Pink, offset by the poignant musings of songwriter Dave McMillan. With a full-length release down the road, ʻFussʼ is an exciting step forward for one of Melbourne’s most promising new bands. Yeah, I just got it on bandcamp, so it can stick with me forever! That good!
