Toby Corton & His Band By Chance have just revealed a soulful video for new single ‘My Religion’, which was conceptualised and art directed by Toby himself.
There are several ways one might respond to a statement, let’s say, Mike Pence’s belief in gay conversion therapy. I’m glad Toby Corton (& his band that’s fantastic not by chance) delivered a compassionate pacing balance, as precise and elegant as My Religion to respond.
It’s about the religious justifications that are used to subject people to suffering, the rhetoric of trying to “save” gay people. It’s a “F**k You!”, to those ideas. We don’t need saving, we need support, acceptance and love.
Anyone who speeds along in the snowy-white 316i BMW of the video can feel the gender non-conformist expressions. It’s time to be transformative without labelling faith in one’s religious pride actually. No F’s to give!
After seeing anti-pride protestors during my Pride experience, I wanted the video to reject these ideas. It’s a display of freedom, despite the fact that there are those that would wish to oppress LGBT+ individuals freedoms. I wanted the video to display these vibrant characters inhabiting spaces that appear bleak, a metaphor for the vibrancy brought by LGBT+ people in what can sometimes be quite bleak and oppressive situations.
Toby Corton would go fanatically well with Amy Winehouse on my mind stage, ruling the world with love and Brit-full RnB from the retro to the modern era. A genius vocalist in terms of smooth context! The track also includes a killer guitar riff tide to the end – sending you flying in another lover-land dimension. No drama, just unmistakable vocal confessions and narratives to bring respect and love above world level! Oh, when will humanity step up to its pure treasures?
You can catch Toby Corton & His Band By Chance live at The Windmill in Brixton on Monday 26th November 2018. Get your tickets here!
