The first song on the limited edition tape wʌndərlænd is called Silently, and Hualun (花伦) band come from a city its name you all know by now -Wuhan (China). The Greek-western hemisphere connects easily with this dense and experimental fragment. It’s a soundscape that hits you like an energy wave in motion. Quarantine comes and goes on planet earth, and we remain, skeptic, collective, and a bit silent within, when processing the facts of fragile though strong life forms. A few months back Hualan was also trapped in isolation. Their music atmosphere reinforces hope into the ambient interpretation of a slow-moving sound stream.
Tracks “Silently” and “No Signal In This City“, are both set to appear in a new film (“244”) by German director, Luis Schubert, who has clearly recognized the emotional qualities of their sound. This film is set for release in the autumn of 2020. The band found their big break in 2018 when they were asked to score the music of the film “An Elephant Sitting Still“. It was the first and last film from the Chinese novelist and director, Hu Bo; and it found great critical success, winning the audience choice award at numerous different film festivals.
“wʌndərlænd” contains some pieces of our life，which recorded and restored the moments we felt were a little unexpected” – Hualun
There is something worth noting here, the cassettes as Archie of Crafting Room Records told us, sold out in the first 3 hours they were up on Bandcamp! We didn’t have the chance to buy a copy! In the near future, Hualan will be releasing music with a larger quantity for all fans to enjoy.
