Club Panther Claw is a modern Shoegaze Trio from New Zealand, comprised of Luke Leaf on vocals, synths and samples, Reuben Pearce on drums, vocals and Tom Maxwell on guitar.
Their style is unique, based on dance music basslines fused with the energy and rawness of Post-Punk sounds. Inspired by bands and artists such as LCD Soundsystem, Queens of the stone age and My Bloody Valentine, they deliver pure energy from the first moment they appear on stage or someone pushes the play button.
To be honest, that was the first thing that hooked me with Club Panther. Their song Kiss The Gun is like a volcano erupting, from start to finish. “One in the bush and two in the trees, kiss the gun and down on your knees.” The song talks about a murder in Ross’ small town, and you can feel the tension building up throughout the track. The ability to take something so dark and turn it into groovy music needs talent.
I love the modern take and aesthetics of the song. Luke Leaf has the attitude to carry on the shoegaze legacy. The song contains guitar layering, heavy strumming and superb melody blending.
I’d enjoy the band live and hope to have the chance one day.
