In ‘Subcultured’, the newest work from LA-based surf rock outfit Easy Sleeper, we’re met with a reflection of these philosophical questions, as we approach a transcendental answer through subtle, incorporeal means. Sonic poeticism & an astute melodicism, combined with an old-fashioned punk sensibility, deliver an exquisite 3 minutes of audial splendor. Guitars dance in a clean-tone-Pixies-meets-Television fashion, as vocals croon in a post-Joy Division/ early-Strokes-era-Julian Casablancas microtonal substrate, bass delivering the counterpoint, as drums/ general rhythms craft a delightful juxtaposition.
