Meeka Kates-Empire (Feat. Allen Ginsberg) | Free DL

I’ve seen the best minds of my generation
Packaged, shipped, and sold
Numbers change color
As the young become old
And I can see why
But I don’t know how
Thousands can bury
Their brains in the ground

Meeka Kates is a recent Melbourne transplant from NYC, a talented singer, songwriter and producer. “Empire” is Meeka’s first release of 2016, a bouncy indie-electronic dance track about the demise of civilization, inspired in equal parts by Jean Michel Basquiat’s painting “Mecca”, which serves as the cover, and Allen Ginsberg’s poem “Howl”, part of which is recited by the poet himself in the third verse of the song. Meeka has one more single and two EPs scheduled for official releases in the spring and summer on Kraak & Smaak’s nascent Boogie Angst label. He will also be featured on K&S’s upcoming album and he will be accompanying them on their fall European tour to promote their sixth full length studio album, which features Meeka on their lead single “So Clear”.
