It’s the #give5aspin E10! Share it, Love it! |
Handpicked for your tastes this week: Sparrows, Austin Paul, SNDNGCHLLZ, Byrdipop, bloodkneeves, El duo, SlimYungMan, Maki Morimoto
Colorful socks, a jumper and a big jug of Green Tea (and a small cold). That’s what changed on and off my desk since the last time we spoke on our #give5aspin gathering! And I’ve got just the mood for laid back, tasty and bubbly tracks that keep feelings warm under a rainy umbrella. Enjoy the fresh handpicked E10 episode. Find at the bottom a full playlist on soundcloud to share these small but precious music memoirs. And have a great week’s start!
1 Sparrows-Get To Know You
Men will come as women go, dreams will be spoken, hearts will be broken….
Fresh Sydney-based producer and vocalist, Sparrows has just unveiled her catchy self-produced and
recorded single ‘Get To Know You’ – a tantalizing landscape of a tenacious sound, that might even bring you closer to Amy Winehouse, Grimes or even Bjork! Soul, Jazz, Pop and Electronica all in melting shots to give you some layered dynamics of thoughtful composed music. Certainly I’m going to keep an ear on her in the future!
2 Austin Paul X SNDNGCHLLZ X Byrdipop – Binary
III Points (Music, Art and Technology Festival, October 7-8-9 | at Mana, Wynwood) has partnered with 10K Islands in Little Haiti to present a first ever compilation project “Swerving Serpents Vol.1“. Nine locals from different worlds and genres pairing up in the studio to get creative. All songs will get played in the festival and artists were given just 48hrs to create with freedom. The 3rd track in the series from Austin Paul, SNDNGCHLLZ, and Byrdipop is absolutely stunning! If gems are powered out in such little time what can I say! What a great way to enforce music collaborations and to elevate the Miami music scene! I’m sort of kicking my shoes as I’m far away from this fest, just see the line up for yourself… and if your in the area get your tickets NOW!
3 bloodkneeves – Walking in the Park
Two Newcastle, Sydney blokes moved to Berlin, and found their sound. Electronic duo bloodkneeves, have revealed an EP that’s full on with down-tempo and a pinch of ambient dance bringing a psychedelic, introspective and groove beat on the plate. Channeling closer to Bonobo, Baths and Nicolas Jaar in the distant field. I can’t decide what time it is while I’m “Walking in the Park“, perhaps CFCF is close by on a swing listening with amazement or it’s that time of the day where the skies fill up with all the purple-pink colors reflecting the hours that passed by, or the ongoing mood of the night. Add some extra guitar-vocal samples and it transcends into a large scale of silky textures and warm polyrhythms. The collaboration is known for producing a myriad of great rock based bands however Michael and Tom are on for a life journey loading our ears with what’s coming their way. We are feeling it!Are you?
4 El duo-Diamonds
If you can juggle with LCD Soundsystem, Medeski Martin & Wood and the great Mulatu Astatke under one arm perhaps the next treasure in your music chest is the new debut EP entitled “The El Key” from the amazing El Duo dynamite! A diamond gem coming for sure out of Oakland! Their album is comprised of four original tracks introducing the duo’s signature prescription of “Lo-fi Afrobeat Jazz”! Although recorded in a variety of spaces “The El Key” delivers a class of raw and warm musical interactions typically only found on live albums. Mixed by Randy Schwartz and mixed/mastered by Myles Boisen at Guerilla Recording in Oakland. Don’t miss this baby! The birth of a new experimental jazz culture!
5 SlimYungMan + Maki Morimoto – LongRoad
SlimYungMan a 19 years old dude coming from North Carolina with his musical bro Maki Morimoto have just landed in my heavenly beats field, a place where I go to feel free and travel the face of the earth in just one play at a time. At least that’s what it says on the bandcamp page. It’s the first time I ever saw Traktrain too as a linked op! I really don’t know nothing more about these guys, but whatever they do they should keep on beat-making their vibes. Tofugu has helped me these days online to say I’m managing some Hiragana, so as the samples and extra sax kick in I’m just a sucker for the tune. A sexy loop with heaps of imagination and a destiny to drive me anywhere from dusk till dawn and everything pitch black in between. Perhaps you’ll find extra love on tumblr page. I want in, with the lo-life community, my next beat-matching mate is online….
