Welfare‘ is the new project from Pat Whelan, who’s previously released as Padraig Whelan. Originally from Doncaster in Yorkshire, he now lives off-grid in the Welsh Marches. His proclivity for the wilderness clearly manifests itself in his stripped down Folksy sound.
‘
Sadie’ is drawn from the SILENT OTHER EP, recorded 2500ft up in the Italian Alps, in a house belonging to writer Julia Blackburn & sculptor Herman Makkink. It’s a track floating effortlessly through my heart with pastoral imagery. From beginning to end, Welfare has a notable impact rejoicing the soul-full folk revival for 2018. I will look back on this song after many years to come.
