Channel Swimmer – Look Up Paradise
Channel Swimmer’s track Look Up Paradise shows off a beautiful, sample-laden sunshine vibe reminiscent of Avalanches and Washed Out. It’s a gorgeous music video, culled from Miami tourism promos from the 80s and 90s, to mesh with the sun-tinged nostalgia of the track itself. There isn’t a better way to start our musical August. Follow Channel Swimmer on Facebook and Twitter.
People’s Champs – No Prisoners
No Prisoners is a reimagined version of Hostages from People’s Champs debut album American Dreamers. It’s a spectacular retro 80s synth, Afro-groove and sums up to the perfect summer jam! There is a hidden message in the lyrical bottle, People’s Champs riff on the words of Persian poet Hafiz, urging listeners not to hold themselves hostage. Follow on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Boi Genius ft. Fem Fel – Charade
Boi Genius is a collaboration between rapper Fem Fel & Jamie AKA Pop Morrison. Tricky-ness accepted.
Magana – Inches Apart
You were born with thicker skin
And I am only oxygen
Whispering, darling please don’t stay
Because you can leave but I won’t wait
This is only the beginning… Inches Apart is a single from Brooklyn’s Magana, accompanied by a stunning video from director Lauren Finerman (New York City Ballet) and backed by exclusive remixes from Frog and Benjamin Shaw. Follow Magana on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Brother Cephus – Toxic Slip
Damn, I really love this video. 2 halves make a whole in any musical language. A gigantic indie-rock vision full of alternative space and colors. Brother Cephus is actually real life brothers Gabe and Seth Davis. Their album Not That Important was recorded earlier this year in Nashville and it’s something you should giveitaspin here. Calm yet powerful throughout the Toxic Slip, their music is a high, emphatic and enveloping. Follow em’ on Facebook, Spotify and Instagram.
